Maths Activity (Tangent)

Tangent
Objective-to verify by paper folding,cutting and pasting that the length of two tangents drawn to a circle from a point outside it are equal.
Pre-requisite knowledge-Concept of tangent to a cicle 
Material Required - Color paper, terracing paper, a pair of scissor, rular, compass, pencil 
and glue.
Procedure-
1. draw a circle  of radius 4 cm on a coloured sheet of paper and cut it out . name its centre as O.
2.Paste this cut out of the circle on a terracing paper.
3.take a point outside the circle such that OP=15.25 cm.
4.Fold the tracing paper through the point P  such that the cease formed just touches the circle . Make this point of contact as A .
5.Join P & A to get  the tangent PA to the circle .
6.Again fold the paper through the point P to obtain another crease such that it touches the circle at the point D .Join PB to get the tangent to the circle .
7.Join O & P .Fold theb paper along OP.
OBSERVATION -  When the paper is folded qalong OP ,we observed that the tangent PA coincides with the tangent PB.
RESULT- The length of two tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal.
